Things to Do
Hen Bost is a great place to base yourself to explore North Wales.
Bala is 7 miles away, with Llangollen (15 miles) and Ruthin (17 miles) close by. Betws y Coed is only 26 miles, and Machynlleth and Llanberis less than an hour's drive. The beaches at Barmouth (35 miles) and Aberdovey (42 miles) are an easy drive, allowing you to combine exploring the wonderful mountains and beaches of North Wales.
Within the village there are several choices for dining out;
- The Dudley Arms, a local pub which serves great food
- The Berwyn Restaurant, serving wholesome food and a legendary selection of puddings
- The Tyddyn Llan, an award winning, fine dining restaurant
- The 'new' post office with a great range of home made Thai food
There are numerous short and long walks starting and finishing in Llandrillo, which will take you through some of the most picturesque hills and valleys of North Wales.
For the more adventurous, the Welsh Whitewater Rafting centre is based just outside Bala, and sailing is available on Bala lake, the largest natural lake in Wales. Off Road Driving and a variety of outdoor pursuits are available nearby.
The local area is renowned for its shooting and fishing, both of which can be arranged.
A great way to experience the local countryside is a trip on one of the steam trains which are located in Llangollen, Llyn Tegid (Bala) and Tywyn.
There is world class mountain biking nearby, with dedicated single track and downhill at Llandegla, Betws y Coed and Coed y Brenin. There are also less challenging trails to explore around Llandrillo and bike hire is available.
A trip to Chester, either to explore the shops or the world famous zoo is a must (40 miles).
There are numerous castles to explore, and National Trust properties to enjoy within easy driving distance of the cottage.
The world renowned International Eisteddfod is held in nearby Llangollen every July.
Regular public transport is available from Llandrillo to Llangollen on the X94 bus route, which runs from Barmouth in the west to Chester.
