Restoration

Hen Bost is a grade II listed building.  Due to its use over the years as the local shop and post office, many of the original features had been hidden.  Our main aim was to restore Hen Bost to its former glory by using original materials and methods, but with the addition of modern day luxuries.

The restoration project took a total of 18 months to complete. The concrete floor was removed and replaced with a breathable limecrete floor.  The whole building was rewired and an intelligent underfloor heating system was installed throughout.

Due to the thickness of the external stone walls, all plaster was removed and replaced with lime plaster. The lime plaster ensures that the walls are able to breathe, allowing moisture that would be trapped within the walls if modern methods were employed, to escape.  Not only is lime plaster in keeping with the original building methods of the cottage, but it is also more environmentally friendly than modern plastering techniques, and enhances the natural beauty of the original building.

A small rear extension was built to house the stairs, and all casement and sash windows were renovated. Two of the original six chimneys were re-instated, and log burning stoves were installed.  The renovation was completed with two new bathrooms and a luxurious fitted kitchen.
